Ken Binyomen Moss 6June2012 Yiddish Book Center

Ken Binyomen Moss, Director of the Jewish Studies Program and Assistant Professor in Modern Jewish History at Johns Hopkins University, was interviewed by Christa Whitney on June 6, 2012 at the Yiddish Book Center. This interview is entirely in Yiddish.

Ken grew up in New Jersey and was introduced to Yiddish through his Jewish Studies classes in college. He spent three summers at YIVO's summer intensive program in New York with famous Yiddishist Mordkhe Schaechter. Through Mordkhe, Ken became involved with Yugntruf activities and Yiddishist families who spoke only Yiddish in the home.

In his interview, Ken talks about how Yiddish and other Jewish languages have framed his identity as an otherwise secular Jew. He also shares his memories of Yugntruf and offers advice on raising Yiddish-speaking children.
